Persistence Revealed: My Book's Cover and Title

When you’re a child, you’re allowed to have big, outrageous, once-in-a-lifetime dreams.

It’s expected – encouraged, even.

But as you get older and real-life experience sets in, a more cynical reality has a way of intervening. You’re not tall enough, strong enough, fast enough to go pro in your favorite sport. You’re not a fan of math, so a future among the stars is out of reach – even though it would be incredible to be an astronaut.

For me, becoming an author felt like one of those dreams.

I absolutely loved reading as a young girl – still do – and would get lost in the pages of every mystery, thriller, or historical fiction book I picked up. I was mesmerized by the covers, running my fingers over the embossed names of the authors.

They felt like members of an exclusive club – one I couldn’t possibly ever belong to. But that never dampened my spirit or my desire to one day add my name on that list.

For the past nine months, I’ve been steadily working toward this dream, checking off each milestone and soaking up every morsel of knowledge along the way.

I couldn’t wait to reveal my book’s title and cover to my family and friends.

Today was that day – and it felt momentous, especially as messages of support poured in across my social channels.

The transition of my book's cover from title to sketch to full color reveal.

Deep down, I always knew this day would come. I work too hard, and I’m far too stubborn to give up. And yet, somehow, it still felt like the impossible dream of a silly little girl.

Someone pinch me!

Realistically, this milestone represents years of creativity, countless stops and starts, setbacks and perseverance, and – most importantly – belief in an idea that refused to let go.

So dream your big dreams – but don’t wish upon a star and hope they’ll come true. Take them by the reins and work relentlessly to bring them to life.

Trust me, that’s when they feel the most meaningful.
