The Next Chapter

I spent most of my life dreaming of becoming an author.

And now that I am, it still feels a little surreal. But it’s also pretty incredible to look back and realize that the hard work, sacrifices and trial and error really did paid off.

It’s a lesson we always try to teach our kids, but one I think is just as important for adults: Dreams are work pursuing, and the most meaningful things in life come from hard work.

But here’s the thing about dreams realized: There’s always another one waiting to be chased.

It’s time to keep pushing, learning and growing.

With that, I’m happy to formally share that I have a new project in the works with my publisher Hillary, from Wilson Lindberg Books, and my illustrator, Robin. I first announced the news yesterday in honor of National Author’s Day.

But this next project is something a little different. A stretch project, if you will.

This time, I'm stepping outside of my Santa-filled comfort zone and trying my hand at something new: an illustrated children's chapter book!

For those who fell in love with Santa’s Summer Vacation in Michigan, don’t worry. I'm far from finished with him! In fact, I'm still promoting the book like crazy ahead of the holidays. I’m also exploring some exciting award opportunities, but more on that later!

And there are definitely more adventures on the horizon for Santa and his silly team of elves.

But this new story is something different. It’s a project that’s been near and dear to my heart for a long time, and one I felt compelled to tell now.

And, of course, the dream team is on board!

I’ve already met with Hillary to start framing out our plan and connected with Robin to share the look and feel I envision for the story. We were on the same page from the start, and the sketches she’s already sent my way are absolutely incredible!

Robin is a digital artist, and I love to see her illustrations come to life right before my eyes.

I have to admit, I've missed watching a story come to life in this way. From the first conversations and ideas to seeing those initial illustrations take shape, it’s truly a gift to experience the creative process all over again.

And that’s what makes this next chapter so exciting.

I’m stepping into something new with a bit more confidence in myself than I had the first time around. I’m also challenging myself in a different way, embracing the opportunity to grow as an author and bringing another story to life with two incredibly talented people who believe in my vision.

I’m excited to share more along the way!
